The artist: Wildlight
Hello, my name is Wildlight, the owner and sole maker here at Wild Dream Creatures, I am a self taught artist who has been drawing and creating animals ever since I was a young child, although I have been making things for years I made my first fursuit in the winter/spring of 2014 and have been creating suits ever since. While my main job is fursuit work I am a hobbyist taxidermist (I only work on ethically sourced pelts) and I hand sculpt the forms for the animals I mount, this gives me practice with real animal anatomy and has greatly improved my anatomy work on my fursuits, as an art teacher of mine once said: you must know the rules to know how to break them
I am an LDS fursuit maker based in utah and as 2018 am 22, I am a furry of 4 years and discovered the fandom through fursuits. I am also a therian (kit fox/Turkish angora) that doesn't affect my business but it's just a fun fact! And I have depression so please be understanding if I am ever a little slow with my work

The Story
There really is no one point when my business came into existence, I was always making things, and I'd make things for other people, and sometimes they'd pay me, I suppose it really started in high school when I started selling yarn tails, I had my little notebook of prices, and I sold mostly to friends and family, but after high school I was faced with the decision of what to do with my life, I got a "real" job once, but that just made me absolutely miserable, so that ended, but then I had no form of getting money. One day I was researching fursuit making, and then the thought crossed my mind "I can be a fursuit maker" and it stuck, I never imagined that I would be a fursuit maker when I discovered the fandom "I'll just stick to tails" I said, but well, here I am, a fursuit maker, making money and being happy in what I do, it wasnt easy to get to this point, I mean, I have natural artistic talent, but I wasnt always good, growing up out of all the artists in my age group I was the worst, still am with drawing, but I didnt give up and eventually found my niche, fursuit making! It wasn't always smooth sailing, my first 2 commissions ended in total failure and I felt so awful that I wanted to give up, but thanks to my many friends I kept going, if anything I've learned from my experience is never give up, but not only that, don't only get back up on that horse when you fall off, you realize your mistakes and better yourself, if something makes you happy, do it
Tips to newbies
My tips to you are, dont give up, especially in the middle of a project, I know its hard sometimes, but sometimes you just need to take a break and look at it with new eyes, also don't be afraid to ask for help, be it opinions on a design, or even asking how to make a head, if you dont know who to ask you can always ask me, I'm not the best maker in the world and im still learning, but I'm willing to share some tips and tricks if you ask ;) also, another thing, criticism, I know it is the absolute worst to hear, but it is the best thing for you, listen to what people have to say, if what they say makes you angry, then leave for a minute, punch a pillow and come back before responding, trust me, you never want to respond to criticism angry, you'll make everyone feel bad and you won't improve, yes, some people can be a little harsh in their criticism, I don't agree with that, you don't have to take their words to heart, but maybe analyze what they said, and try to realize why they said it, most of the time they aren't trying to belittle you. Still on the topic of criticism, one of the things that have helped me improve the most the fastest is self criticism, I don't know about you, but when I'm working often I'll get lost in the moment and kinda just go and forget to really watch what im doing, and sometimes things will end up crooked, heheh, but sometimes you got to stop yourself, pull up a refrence, and critic your own work, also don't look at it as "its my first suit, so its okay!" No, it is never "okay" when you say it's fine and move on, thats giving up, treat yourself like you're great, and you will be, be hard on yourself, but don't beat yourself up, if you see something wrong, fix it the moment you see it
